I’ve been looking forward to reviewing this movie since it’s one of the best I saw during my off-period. Also, it’s one of my favorite genres. I am a huge fan of everything James Wan – he has proven to be the best in the horror movie biz and I need more of his masterpieces, please (The Nun is comiiiiiing). Anyway, I went to see the prequel of Annabelle with my brother and, after the terrible first movie, I was afraid to have ANY expectations.
Annabelle 2, as I like to call it, is the prequel of the first Annabelle movie (which is the prequel of The Conjuring) and if you watch Annabelle 2, the first movie will make a bit more sense to you who didn’t get some things in that movie. Annabelle 2 tells the story of a manufacturer of dolls called Samuel Mullins who lives a happy life with his wife Esther and his daughter Bee. One day, on their way home from church, Bee dies in a tragic accident, which shatters the lives of the parents. 12 years later, Samuel welcomes a group of orphans and a nun at home but insists that Bee’s room is off limits for the girls. However, of course, one girl gets too curious and can’t stay away from that damn room. And believe me, she regrets it. What if Bee never left the house?
I know that the bar is pretty low when it comes to horror movies as only 1 out of 5 is a good. Annabelle 2 is that 1 out of 5. Every single thing about this movie is demonic and so gross that I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days – and, unfortunately, for nights. I got to admit that I was very annoyed by the terrible choices the characters make but, apart from that, I was stunned by the details. Everything worked so well because it managed to scare the sh*t out of me on every level, and I loved that Valak aka the Nun made a few appearances (remember, I love cross overs!). I love the pace of the movie as it builds up for the scares slowly but fast enough to keep the happenings moving. However, the time between the different happenings is painfully short. I also love that the amount of characters is limited because nothing can kill a movie like too many characters. I know that The Conjuring has many characters but let’s not forget that The Conjuring was based on real events and each sibling had experienced something.
Annabelle 2 answers questions about the first movie and you get a huge “AHA” moment at the end. This movie definitely saved the first one, which was utter garbage and a huge waste of time. If you want huge jump scares, a lot of tension and lack of sleep, watch this movie! You will be amazed by the details and the overall creepiness about them. I repeat; this movie is more demonic than any other horror movie and, compared to the majority of horror movies, this is an Oscar worthy movie (it’s a comparison, I don’t actually think it deserves an Oscar). With all this in mind, I can’t help but give Annabelle: Creation 5 out of 5 clapperboards, as it has everything a successful horror movie should contain, and it managed to save the Annabelle story.
